The Homeless Leadership Alliance of Pinellas (HLA) is currently hiring a Special Projects Coordinator.
The Special Projects Coordinator leads volunteer and community engagement events for the HLA and Pinellas Continuum of Care (CoC). This position consists of two primary areas of responsibility – project management / support and relationship management / community engagement. The Special Projects Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the annual Pinellas County Point in Time (PIT) Count event - a county-wide volunteer event taking place each January. Additionally, this individual will manage volunteer activities, community events, and various outreach initiatives throughout the year. The Special Projects Coordinator will work closely with colleagues, committees, community leaders, volunteers, and people with lived expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the annual Point in Time (PIT) Count, a large-scale volunteer event. PIT occurs in January and requires 8-10 months of planning; this event involves over 350 volunteers and dozens of partner agencies. The Special Projects Coordinator is responsible for overall event operation, liaising with (sub)committee leadership, maintaining timelines and budgets, hiring a researcher, collaborating with internal and external partners, and ensuring publication and distribution of the PIT Report.
Manage the HLA’s volunteer programs, including identifying volunteer leaders and helping Continuum of Care (CoC) partners meet volunteer needs and. A volunteer database – including descriptions for each role – must also be maintained.
Identify community outreach opportunities and attend recruiting events to attract qualified volunteer candidates and community partners. This role is responsible for scheduling, staffing, and managing events.
Engage in community outreach promoting the organization and services to increase visibility in the community, encourage support, amplify the mission of the HLA and CoC, and reduce the stigma surrounding homelessness.
Initiate and participate in efforts to strengthen and build partnerships with other organizations aimed at fostering the development of collaborative projects.
Lead meetings and trainings for providers, volunteers, and committees; this may include but is not limited to elected officials, individuals who have previously or are currently experiencing homelessness, law enforcement, youths, and seniors.
Create and distribute monthly newsletters, excluding the HMIS newsletter(s).
Manage the Pinellas Homeless Resource Guide, including updates, prints, the digital guide, and distribution.
Assist with marketing initiatives as directed, including maintaining the HLA’s website, updating and distributing brochures, etc.
Develop external and internal presentations as needed, at times leading them. This could include presentations to the CoC Board, Committees, and other key stakeholders and groups.
Support organization-wide efforts to increase the performance management and quality improvement processes of the CoC to ensure that federal, state, and local goals and priorities in the homeless services system are effectively and efficiently met.
Participates in Emergency Management activities – including hurricane response and the Cold Night Shelter Program (managed by the CoC Planning Specialist and / or HLA leadership) – as directed.
Performs other duties and projects to assist in the efficiency and success of the Continuum of Care, as assigned.
